Field Trip Announcements
Field trips are being planned for AAS members for the upcoming year. Trips will include easy, moderate, and strenuous level of effort. We hope to accommodate the interests and physical condition of all our members.
Scheduled Field Trips
Sunday, March 26, 2023: Field trip to the Albuquerque Museum Exhibit “Indigenous Art, Culture, and Community”.
AAS member Carol Chamberland will be our Docent
Exhibit of works from the Ruth and Sidney Schultz collection featuring ceramics, beadwork, prints, paintings, and other artwork produced by many award winning Native American artist, most of whom have participated in Santa Fe’s Indian Market.
Fee: AAS $10
Limit: 12 current AAS members
Tour: 1 ½ hours

Saturday, April 15, 2023: Field trip to the “Foothills Pueblo” site in the Sandias.
Leader: Sandra Arazi Coambs Cibola Forest Service Archaeologist
To see: A pueblo earlier than Jaral, in the Pueblo 3 period. Some adobe and mound distinction.
Fee: AAS $10
Limit: 15 AAS members
Difficulty: 1 ½ mile, trekking poles recommended

Saturday, April 29, 2023: Field trip to Caja del Rio Plateau.
Leader: Attempting to get Santa Fe Forest Service archaeologist, else AAS members who have visited the site will lead
To see: Los Aguajes pueblo site, stone shrines, petroglyphs, trails, and fields.
Fee: AAS $10
Limit: 15 AAS members
Difficulty: From flat to steep slopes and unstable basalt rock. Site on Forest Service land. Road access is passable but high clearance vehicles are necessary. Dry road conditions are necessary, and scouting will be done prior to April 29 to determine road condition.
