Tsi-pin (Tsi-p’in-owinge), Santa Fe National Forest

October 20, 2018

A field trip to the archaeological site of Tsi-pin (Tsi-p’in-owinge) is planned for Saturday October 20, to be led by Steve Patchett (AAS) and Ann Baldwin and Mike Bremer (Santa Fe National Forest). This trip is for experienced hikers in very good shape (“No heart conditions, trouble breathing, lung problems and anyone with a DNR [do not resuscitate], no ankle, leg or knee surgery” per Ann) and who are comfortable with walking over uneven terrain and along a steep trail. The trail, though not long in distance, is rough, rocky, and uneven, and the hard part is eight switchbacks down and eight switchbacks and 700 feet back up to the parking area at the end of the hike. According to Ann Baldwin, it will be a slow-going and tiring full day trip. Signup will be at the September 18 meeting.

  1. Hello, I’m a archeology student up here in Alaska. I’ll be visiting your area from December 5th- the 15th. I was hoping to beable to learn as much about the sites in this region during this time. Will you be having any field trips or active sites during this time period? If so I’d love to tag along.

    Thank you

    • Hello David. Unfortunately December is not a month that we schedule field trips due to weather. Although, Coronado Historic Site and Jemez Historic site will be open throughout your visit and a joint pass can be purchased at either site for $7. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you.
