Two-day Outing to Bolack Ranch and La Plata Canyon

 

September 16 and 17, 2017

September 16(Sat) and September 17(Sun) Overnight Tour: Bolack Ranch
Archaeology Sites and La Plata Canyon Trip. Guide: Linda Wheelbarger (Totah
Archaeology Project/San Juan College).

Overview:
Tour: Tour includes (time permitting and discretion of Guide)
Day 1: Archaeological sites on the Bolack Ranch- Sterling Pueblo, San Juan and Stewart Canyon
Anasazi Rock Art panels, Point Pueblo (a Chaco Outlier site), Navajo Rock Art Panel, cribbed log
Hogan, Navajo sweat lodge. Up to the top of the Bluffs of Farmington viewing Archaic site, Head
Canyon Anasazi site, and finally overlook from the Bluffs of Farmington, Point Pueblo, Tommy Site and
Needle Rock (petroglyphs).
Day 2: La Plata Canyon (20mi N of Farmington), Waterflow Rock Art Site, La Plata with Holmes(P1 BM
3)and Morris 41(P1 BM3)
Difficulty: No trails. From easy walking to moderate to rough country/hills. No facilities

  1. Hello, I’m a archeology student up here in Alaska. I’ll be visiting your area from December 5th- the 15th. I was hoping to beable to learn as much about the sites in this region during this time. Will you be having any field trips or active sites during this time period? If so I’d love to tag along.

    • Hello David. Unfortunately December is not a month that we schedule field trips due to weather. Although, Coronado Historic Site and Jemez Historic site will be open throughout your visit and a joint pass can be purchased at either site for $7. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to seeing you.
